MYSTAFFS APP DESIGN
The County Council say they understand just how busy life can get for lots of residents. So, to lend a helping hand, they came up with a much quicker and easier way in which customers can talk to them. Queue the myStaffs app. Launched by Staffordshire County Council, in partnership with Tamworth Borough, Lichfield District and South Staffordshire Councils and governmentM.
PROFILE BY PROFILE
We had to design a series of brand elements for the app, covering four profiles that related to to the districts over Staffordshire. This included typography, colour schemes and design effects that followed the guidelines for each district. To give the app branding a cohesive look, fonts and styles where kept the same throughout the profiles.
"The final app has been a huge success and is an on-going project, with future updates already being planned."
The final touches for the brand came with a design of the app icon, a stylised 'S' that combines the colours of the district profiles in a series of bands.
TAKING OUT THE TRASH
One of the sections of the app includes the facility to request a new waste container. Not the most exciting of design subjects, but nevertheless – it needed to look good and be easy for the user to navigate.
Working closely with governmentM, we helped develop a visual interface to make it a quick and easy process. Using a 'tick based' system, we made it easy to see where you are in the process of requesting a waste container and how many steps are left to complete it. We were able to apply this to other parts of the app, such as reporting an issue to the council.
The final app has been a huge success and is an on-going project, with future updates already being planned. So, whether you need to report an issue, make a transaction, or request information from your local Staffordshire Council, you can simply download the free app and access key services anytime, anywhere. It was an interesting project, that involved designing an entire brand image for mobile and tablet devices. It also involved looking at the users experience of in great detail and translating it into an interface to make it as seamless as possible.
